Sara Mingardo – Statira

One of the rare voices of genuine contralto on the music scene today, Sara Mingardo regularly collaborates with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Ivor Bolton, Riccardo Chailly, Myung-Whun Chung, Ottavio Dantone, Colin Davis, John Eliot Gardiner, Riccardo Muti, Trevor Pinnock, Christophe Rousset, Jordi Savall, Jeffrey Tate and Rinaldo Alessandrini. Her repertoire includes works by Gluck, Monteverdi, Handel, Vivaldi, Rossini, Verdi, Cavalli, Mozart, Donizetti, Schumann and Berlioz. Particularly active in concert, she has a vast repertoire ranging from Pergolesi to Respighi, through Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Dvorak and Mahler. She was awarded the prestigious Premio Abbiati in 2009.

Future plans: Bach’s Mass in B minor at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Antonio Pappano; Mendelssohn’s Symphony no.2 “Lobgesang” at the Accademia di Santa Cecilia in Rome under Claudio Abbado; Il Ritorno di Ulisse in Patria (Penelope) in Zurich (under Ivor Bolton); L’Incoronazione di Poppea (Ottone) at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan under Rinaldo Alessandrini; Mozart’s Requiem with Accentus under Laurence Equilbey on tour in France; Messiah with Orfeo55 under Nathalie Stutzmann on a European tour; Kindertotenlieder with the Malaysian Symphony Orchestra in Kuala Lumpur; Cherubini’s Medea (Neris) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève; Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in Basel; concerts in London, Frankfurt, Prague, Liege and Ghent.

A Specialist of Baroque music, she has a repertoire that goes up to the twentieth century. Among her recent performances, it is worth mentioning: Handel’s Athalia (Josabeth) with Capella Cracoviensis and Paul Goodwin in Krakow; Vivaldi’s Teuzzone (Cino) with Le Concert de Nations and Jordi Savall in Versailles (recorded for Naïve); Il Novello Giasone (Isifile) by Cavalli/Stradella at the Festival della Valle d’Itria in Martina Franca; Mozart’s Requiem under Christopher Hogwood at the Anima Mundi Festival in Pisa; Così fan tutte (Dorabella) under Ryo Terakado in Tokyo; Handel’s Deidamia (Nerea) in Vienna and in Braunschweig, Handel’s Ariodante (Ginevra) in Turin and Bucharest, Handel’s Orlando (Angelica) in Versailles, all of them with Il Complesso Barocco and Alan Curtis; Handel’s Agrippina (Poppea) and Vivaldi’s Orlando Furioso (1714) (world premiere) at the Festival de Beaune with Modo Antiquo and Sardelli; concerts with La Venexiana in Halle (Händelfestspiele), Gdańsk, Wroclaw, Krakow, Espinho, Korkyra and Bologna. In the season 2012/2013 she successfully sang a whole run of performances of Agrippina (Poppea) at the Kiel Opera, under Ruben Dubrovsky, and the first staged production of Vivaldi’s Farnace (1738) at the Teatro Comunale in Florence under Federico Maria Sardelli; Serse (Atalanta) with Ensemble Matheus and Jean-Christophe Spinosi in Dortmund; Vivaldi’s L’incoronazione di Dario with Accademia Bizantina and Ottavio Dantone and Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice (Euridice) with Modo Antiquo and Federico Maria Sardelli at the Festival de Beaune. Future plans: Messiah with Collegium 1704 in Prague; Le Nozze di Figaro (Susanna) in Tokyo; Handel’s Giove in Argo (Iside) at the Handel Festival in Halle with L’arte del mondo and Werner Ehrhardt; Haydn’s The Creation with the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast.
